Congratulations to The L.E.A.F. (Loving Equally
All Families) Project for receiving the
President’s Award from the Conneaut Chamber of Commerce for
2010. The Award was presented with a Proclamation from the
Ohio State Senate by Senator Capri S. Cafaro and another
Proclamation from the Ohio House of Representatives by
Representative Deborah Newcomb. The L.E.A.F. Project
was recognized in appreciation for making the city
of Conneaut a better place to live by organizing volunteers
to make home repairs/renovations for those in need.
The L.E.A.F. Project for
2011 will be July 9, 11-16.
The organizational team for
L.E.A.F. has been meeting for several months preparing for
the work week in July, 2011. Monthly meetings are held at
7pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the New Leaf U.M.
Church.
Word is getting out to the
community through a DVD to be shown on the Conneaut Cable
Access channel, large posters to be put in the library,
schools, churches and the store fronts of Conneaut, and one
of our local radio shows has asked for a rep from L.E.A.F.
to be on soon.
Several groups from churches
outside our area have expressed an interest in participating
in L.E.A.F. this summer. Two of them have already committed
– a group from Poland, Ohio lead by Rev. Michael Grant of
Poland U.M. Church and a combined youth group of about 30-40
from the Mentor and Painesville U.M. churches are coming in
to help with the repair work this year. Volunteers will be
housed at St. Mary Hall – the Headquarters for The L.E.A.F.
Project for that past several years.
Hope you will consider
volunteering some time to L.E.A.F. this summer.
